The trichomoniasis is another name for vaginitis. It is a parasitic disease and is caused by a single parasite known as trichomonas vaginalis a protozoa. This is basically caused due to sexual transmission of the protozoa. It builds up pressure upon the existing cells in the vaginal region and leads to death and ingestion of the dead cells. The infection is observed in the urogenital tract of a female and affects both the vagina and the urethra. In general this disease is observed in women. The primary symptom includes vaginal infection or vaginitis, inflammation of the region around the cervix or cervicitis, inflammation of the urethra or urethritis also burning and itching is common.
The level of discomfort is high during sexual activity or urination. The vaginal discharge may turn yellowish and a foul smell is observed often. Abdominal pain due to this problem is quite rare. After 5 to 28 days of the transmission the problems come up. Though the standard test or regular diagnosis may be negative but the protozoa can persist despite the treatment for years without any proper symptoms.
Treatments For Treating Trichomoniasis
The disease is passed sexually only. Thus, preventions are the best way to keep away from them. Use of condoms is the only way to prevent this disease as per studies done still now. The studies in this context have never been too focused about the problems or how to trichomoniasis spreads. You can also practice safe sex and follow the regular test method to keep in check.
Pills And Medication
In case of pregnant or non- pregnant women pills are used to treat this disease. Metronidazole is most commonly used pill for this situation. The doses may vary.
If you are pregnant then the disease needs to be taken care at early stages and generally a dose of approximately 2000 mg is prescribed. The partners in this case also have to take the medicine. Both the partners need to be treated.
Avoidance Of Any Sexual Activity Is A Must
If your sexual partner is constant then your partner also needs to undergo medication. In men the problem is resolved quickly and without any treatment. Using preventions is absolutely necessary once the disease is detected. In fact you should not get into any sexual activity during the treatment. Keep distance from others as well.
It is very important to maintain your hygiene during this disease diagnosis. Use properly washed clothes. Take regular baths. Avoid scratching and sweating as much as possible. Avoid sharing personal stuffs with others. In men the problem is resolved automatically without the treatment and the span is quick. However, in women the disease persists for longer periods and needs treatments and proper care.
The types of infection are still not fixed and almost every year a different form of it is observed. If you feel any sort of discomfort then get in touch with a gynecologist immediately, this may help you to heal the disease in its primary stages without much intervention. Though the parasites are not harmful initially but it can indeed lead to some very serious problems if it is ignored.
