If you are feeling uncomfortably moist in your vagina and the surrounding areas, probably you are experiencing vaginal sweating. Excessive vaginal sweating is a part of hyperhidrosis which is a sweating disorder caused by abnormal signals from the sympathetic nervous system. Vaginal sweating is often accompanied by a foul odor which is not only irritating and embarrassing for you but also to people who are in close proximity with you. It can also be accompanied by vaginal discharge and this condition not only causes greater discomfiture but also indicates infection of the vagina.
Normal and Abnormal Vaginal Sweating
Some amount of vaginal sweating does happen as the vagina, being a private part is not exposed to fresh air.
But excess vaginal sweating happens due to a sympathetic nervous system disorder due to which wrong signals for vaginal sweating are sent to the sweat glands in the vagina and they function as directed.
Difference Between Vaginal Sweating and Urine Leakage
Sometimes it may take you a while to detect that your vagina is sweating and that you are not experiencing a urine leakage because the components of vaginal sweat match with those of urine to a certain extent. In such cases you should watch for associated symptoms like bad vaginal odor, vaginal discharge or vaginal itching.
The texture of vaginal sweat depends upon the foods that you consume. If you eat oily food when experiencing vaginal sweating you can expect to find your vaginal sweat oily the next day as excess oil in the body is excreted through sweat glands. Fishy smell indicates bacterial infection like bacterial vaginosis.
Signs and Symptoms of Vaginal Sweating are Individualistic
The signs and symptoms of vaginal sweating are individualistic. They depend on our individual health conditions, diets, the type of clothes we wear and the level of personal hygiene we maintain. Some people experience vaginal sweating without any foul odor. They can detect that they have sweated by the wetting of their undergarments.
Vaginal sweating is aggravated in hot and humid weather and therefore if you have to be in such a weather you can opt to stay in an air-conditioned room if possible or otherwise wash your genitals with soap and water several times a day and wear fresh undergarments every time.
Vaginal Sweat Gland Cysts
Vaginal sweating can also result in the formation of cysts in the vulvular region. These lesions or bumps can cause discomfiture to the patient. They may develop due to surgery done in the region during pregnancy or another medical condition and they need to be removed surgically.
Cysts formed due to mere vaginal sweating may not be infectious. The cysts, if inflamed and draining, may require a biopsy to confirm the nature of the cyst. Vaginal sweat gland cysts are formed by blockage of the sweat glands.
