Fibrocystic breasts are found to occur in women just before or during their monthly menstrual cycle. It can be termed as another symptom of premenstrual syndrome. The breasts usually become very sensitive and tender to even the lightest touch and there is also formation of small lumps just below the surface of the skin.
These lumps are generally not painful and in 99 percent of cases are benign growths. They probably occur because of the sudden gush of various hormones when the female approaches the monthly period. In most women the symptoms of fibrocystic breasts subside as soon as the bleeding is over.
