Libido is the sexual desire that a person feels. Though it is quite natural for any man or woman to feel it, there are several causes that can lower this urge significantly. In fact, in the modern days, low libido is developing into a major cause of concern. What are the causes that are affecting male libido?
There are various factors that can lead to low libido and these are physical, psychological and even environmental. Sometimes these factors are intertwined and one may affect the other leading ultimately to low of libido. Even lack of time for intimacy is contributing to the problem.
Reasons For Low Libido In Men
This is one of the common reasons of low libido but it is often ignored as having anything to do with libido. Every time the body experiences stress, adrenaline and cortisol are released by the body.
When this becomes regular and a person suffers from chronic stress, the hormone levels malfunction and the arteries constrict to regulate the blood flow. These together can lead to low libido and even erectile dysfunction.
This is often found to be one of the causes of low sexual drive. Good sleep is necessary for proper functioning of the body. It is often considered to be the best method of replenishment of the energy lost during the whole day. When a person loses sleep, it raises the cortisol level resulting in low libido. Restless leg syndrome resulting from low dopamine secretion can also be one of the reasons for erectile dysfunction.
Status of Health
The regular health of a man is also one factor. Illnesses that affect the systems of the body can sometimes interfere with testosterone secretion. Diseases like renal failure, diabetes, etc. are some of them.
When the body suffers from these diseases, the normal body function tries to keep the vital functions going while shutting or cutting down the non-vital functions and that includes formation of testosterone. As a result of low testosterone, the person can suffer from low sexual urge.
Hormones are directly responsible for controlling body functions and any imbalance in their secretion can lead to a number of conditions including low sex drive. Testosterone is directly responsible for libido and any fall in its level can cause its lowering. Such fall in level can be due to various factors like illness, injury and even malfunction of other organs like liver and kidney.
Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Both these substances affect the nervous system. While alcohol can become dangerous after a certain amount, drug can do it almost instantly.
Sexual performance depends much on a stable nervous system and when this is affected the man may not get any arousal at all resulting in low libido.
This is a psychological problem that may lead to low libido. And this is very important as intimacy of a relationship is important for stimulating the sexual desire. Often various external factors may contribute to estrangement and resulting loss of sexual drive.
Depression and Medication
Depression may affect not only the mental set up but also influence the chemistry of the bodily functions. So there is a great chance of low libido.
The medications used for treatment of various diseases can also bring in depression and affect the sexual drive. Similarly, medicines for treatment of blood pressure and other diseases can lower libido.
