Symptoms Of Perimenopause
Irregular Menstrual Cycle
Menstrual cycle or periods come at irregular interval during perimenopause. It does not follow a regular 28 to 30 days cycle. If the cycle does not come for 12 months at a stretch, a woman can be declared to be in menopause.
Before that she might be experiencing premenopausal phase. Also the periods get lighter or heavier. They can be shorter or longer in duration.
Hot Flashes And Night Sweats
A woman might experience sudden hot flashes which might result in excessive sweating. Hot flashes are a feeling of suddenly experiencing excessive heat accompanied by red and flushed face. It usually occurs during night.
A woman might feel sleeplessness during night. It is one of the common symptoms of perimenopause. Due to sleep disorder, the woman might feel tired and fatigued.
As the hormone level fluctuates during perimenopause, a woman might experience varied mood swings like anger, anxiety, fear, depression and irritation. Different women experience different mood swings.
Dryness In Vagina
As the estrogen level goes down, the tissues in the vagina loses its lubrication. It gets less elastic. Dryness in the vagina leads to other itching problems in and around that area.
Also loss of elasticity of the tissues sometimes makes it difficult to hold urine for long. A woman might be vulnerable to pass on urine as she sneezes or coughs.
Many women feel a decreased desire for sex. The logic can be accounted to sleeplessness and other emotional disorders. In some women, the dryness of vagina contributes as a reason for low libido. However, with a loving partner and with the use of supplements, this problem can be easily overcome.
Peimenopause leads to an increase in body weight. The extra fat usually accumulates around belly. If belly fat is not controlled in time, it might lead to other health problems.
The bad cholesterol or low density lipo protein (LDL) increases in women with advancing age and the good cholesterol or high density lipo protein (HDL) reduces making women more prone to heart diseases. A regular exercise regime can take care of increased body weight.
Breast can retain water and can become saggy and heavy. It can also be accompanied by pain in breasts or mastalgia.
Change In Skin Texture
The skin can become dry losing its natural oil and elasticity. This condition of the skin can be attributed to the decreased production of estrogen. With this the collagen secretion decreases, causing the skin dry.
In few cases, woman might complain of severe headaches similar to migraines pain.
