‘Kwao Krua’ is a herbal plant that is found in the forests of northern Thailand. It is known for its unique medicinal properties and efficiencies. This plant is known to many generations and local people. In fact, it has been used in the traditional medicine. Many academicians and researchers have conducted studies on this herb to know its benefits. There are certain universities who have started offering master’s degree programs in Kwao Krua.
As per the classification of this herb, it is available in four varieties namely Black Kwao Krua, Dull Grey Kwao Krua, Red Kwao Kura also known as Butea Superba and White Kwao Kura that is commonly called as Pueraria Mirifica. Pueraria Mirifica has been used by the local communities of Thailand for more than one hundred years. This herb has excellent rejuvenating properties. It has been used as a remedy for many skin disorders. Many researchers have published articles on Pueraria Mirifica.
A pamphlet was published by Luang Anusan Suntara on ‘Kwao Krua’ in May, 1931. The pamphlet described how a folk medicine could be prepared in different ways with the help of Pueraria Mirifica. Suntara also claimed that the herb had many rejuvenating powers. The following benefits of Pueraria Mirifica were published in the pamphlet:
- Acts as an anti-wrinkle agent for wrinkled and aged skin.
- Helps in increasing hair growth and darkening white hair.
- Helps in alleviating cataract problems.
- Helps in improving blood circulation.
- Helps in increasing vigor and energy for reflexive movements in the body.

Dr. A.F.G Kerr, who was the Director of the Botanical Section of the Journal of the Siam Society, revealed his findings in 1932. He stated that ‘Kwao Kura’, which was mistakenly identified as Butea Superba at that time, had very strong rejuvenating properties.
Dr. Kerr made people aware of the rejuvenating properties of Kwao Kura at an international level. This opened the doors for the discovery of phytoestrogen and later, the identification of Pueraria Mirifica.
It diminishes the signs of aging and brings back youth in men and women.
