Signs Of Breast Cancer
Change In Appearance Of Nipples
The appearance of nipples of the breasts might change. It can be either flattened or can be turned inwards. Even the nipples might feel less sensitive to touch. The skin on the nipples might appear scaly, dry or even inflamed.
Difference In Size And Shape Of Breasts
This is one of the most common signs of breast cancer. Out of the two breasts, one might have some difference in shape and size. One could be more oval, heavier, and bulkier than the other. One way to notice this sign is to stand in front of a mirror and to notice both the breasts for any kind of difference in size or shape of the breasts. Women should also give a sideways look at their breasts keeping their hands up.
Lump In The Armpits
Breast cancer primarily spreads to lymph nodes present in the armpits. Women might feel pain in the armpits.
Upon touching and close examining one might find solid lump which would be hard and would not shift position. Lump can be accompanied by swelling in the armpits.
Puckering Of Skin Near Breasts
In some cases the skin under the breast area will appear puckered as the outer skin gets tethered to the cancer proliferating inside the layers of skin.
The upper back area near the shoulder blades ache and it is commonly mistaken as common back pain due to ligament pull.
As breast cancer stars growing, the breast tumor develops to glandular tissue and extends towards wall of chest. It pushes the chest wall and so women experience persistent upper back pain.
Discharge From Nipples
Among the signs of breast cancer, this sign is also quite common. There can be some discharge from the nipples even when the woman is neither lactating nor pregnant. The discharge can be watery or milky. In some cases even blood oozes out from the nipples.
Itchiness Or Soreness Of Breasts
This is a lesser known sign for breast cancer. This sign has been reported in only 3 percent of the females having breast cancer. The skin around nipples becomes red and itchy.
The skin on breast feels hot on touching. The rashes formed on the skin appear as ‘orange peel’. The signs will not subside unless medical assistance is not taken.
Persistent Pain At One Spot
Breast cancer is accompanied by persistent pain either near the armpits or on the breasts or on the upper back. Joints and back bone might also pain in breast cancer.
