In ectopic pregnancy, the fertilized eggs get settled in the fallopian tubes and hence also named as tubal pregnancy. Instead of fallopian tube, egg may at times get implanted in abdomen, ovary or cervix. But, since these are not meant for nurturing a fetus, such pregnancy eventually may burst the organ containing them and lead to serious internal bleeding that endangers the life of the mother. It is always better to terminate such pregnancy as soon as it is diagnosed as an ectopic pregnancy.
Important Symptoms Of Ectopic Pregnancy
The earliest signals may not be diagnosed as those of ectopic pregnancy as these are similar to that of normal pregnancy’s early signs.
But when certain unusual symptoms appear between 5 to 14 weeks of the pregnancy, it is suspected to be that of an ectopic pregnancy.
It is an unusual bleeding that may occur during ectopic pregnancy as dark bright red color and should never be mistaken as a regular menstrual period. Such kind of vaginal bleeding often comes and goes intermittently, rather than being a continuous blood flow.
Pain At One Side Of The Abdomen
Experiencing pain at one of the sides of abdomen that is severe and persistent can be the signal of an ectopic pregnancy. Get yourself checked to rule out such pregnancy from progressing.
The abdominal pain can range from crampy or mild initially to intense and stabbing pain eventually. There can also be bowel pain alongside, while passing stools or even urine.
Pain At The Shoulder Tip
Shoulder pain at the tips, where the shoulder projects into the arm may occur while lying down and is a signal of internal bleeding due to ectopic pregnancy. The internal bleeding irritates the phrenic nerve, present within the diaphragm, causing pain at the shoulder blade.
Vomiting And Diarrhea
During ectopic pregnancy, symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting similar to that observed under gastrointestinal disease can also be experienced.
Certain Additional Symptoms Of Ectopic Pregnancy
A few more symptoms may also be experienced during an ectopic pregnancy that includes, fainting or dizziness due to loss of blood, lower back pain, elevated heart rate, pale appearance and low blood pressure in the pregnant women. These symptoms are signals of serious concerns and there is a dire need to get an immediate medical attention.
Symptoms Direct One For Seeking Medical Attention
Every woman should consult the gynecologist when experiences a sudden change in menstruation cycles or patterns, has unusual vaginal bleeding or/and persistent abdominal pain.
Emergency Medical Aid
Immediate medical need as an emergency requirement should necessarily be provided under the most severe symptom of collapsing, indicating the fallopian tubes have split open (rupturing of tubes due to outburst) leading to dangerous and fatal internal bleeding. During the collapse a woman may feel sick, lighthearted, show fainting spells, have an elevated heart rate and looks pale.
In case, fallopian tube rupture symptoms are observed, do call 999 for an ambulance. Most of the cases, ruptured fallopian tubes can be removed or repaired, and only under rare cases, it turns out to be fatal. So, quick action may save a life.
